Advisory, Performance Improvement, Financial Services - Finance (Insurance, Accounting Change and Transformation)- Senior Associate / Manager / Senior Manager

The opportunity

Working with CFOs in leading insurers, EY finance professionals in the Finance Performance Improvement (PI-Finance) services help to assess and transform the finance and actuarial functions to improve performance and effectiveness. They provide insights and recommendations on people, processes and systems, and then work with clients to help deliver improvements including those listed below.

Finance services are designed to improve the performance of clients’ finance and actuarial organizations and their businesses. We help organizations to achieve strategic alignment of their finance and actuarial organizations, help implement service and cost improvement initiatives and embed a performance management process and culture that unites the business around its core objectives.

In the PI-Finance, the teams focus on assisting our clients with:

  • Accounting change and transformation services, with the current focus being on implementation of IFRS17
  • Rapid assessment services, including review of reports against best practices, balanced scorecard reporting, business planning, budgeting and forecasting and reporting of actual performance for external and internal audiences
  • Finance transformation programs, from a full transformation of the finance and actuarial functions to a transformation of interdependent processes such as budgeting and forecasting
  • Process efficiency reviews, including the design of metrics to improve process effectiveness and efficiency

Your key responsibilities

  • Help deliver and implement projects, including
  • Implementation of IFRS17 and other changes in accounting standards, including implementation of related system changes
  • Design and implementation of new subledger, general ledger or financial consolidations systems
  • Design and implementation of performance measurement and KPI dashboards for insurers
  • Design of cost allocation and profitability measurement frameworks and processes, and implementation of related systems
  • Review and improvement of financial statement close processes
  • Review and improvement of local regulatory reporting processes and implementation of related system changes
  • Design and implementation of new Finance target operating model
  • Lead the preparation of client services, such as
  • IFRS17 data, system and process impact assessment and implementation roadmap
  • IFRS17 subledger business requirements and functional design documentation
  • IFRS17 chart of accounts and proforma financial statements design documentation
  • Cost allocation methodology documentation
  • Finance Target Operating Model (T.O.M.) documentation
  • Project plans, steering committee papers and project status reports
  • Other services related to example projects listed above

Skills and attributes for success

  • Excellent command of spoken and written English
  • Proficiency in Cantonese and Putonghua is an advantage

To qualify for the role you must have

  • Bachelor's degree or a Master's degree with a major in Accounting
  • Accounting qualification or equivalent based on experience (HKICPA / CPA / ACCA / CIMA etc. certification)
  • At least 8-10 years’ accounting or finance function experience in the Insurance industry as a Senior Manager
    • in insurance sector companies, and/or
    • professional services firms, and/or
    • regulatory bodies related to insurance
  • For consideration as a manager, 5 – 8 years’ experience, as above
  • For consideration as a senior, 3 - 5 years’ experience, as above

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Demonstrable knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (theoretical and practical implementation knowledge of IFRS 17 Insurance contracts is a significant advantage)
  • Familiarity with Sun Accounts or Oracle or SAP general ledger packages (is an advantage)
  • Familiarity with FIS Prophet or other actuarial modeling solutions (is an advantage)
  • Familiarity with the implementation of the Solvency II Directive (is an advantage)
  • Familiarity with Hong Kong Insurance Authority requirements (is an advantage)
  • Good understanding of the insurance industry marketplace, as well as industry trends and issues
  • Good comprehensive understanding of Finance the function in insurance
  • Strong client service orientation, with a commercial flair
  • Fantastic communication and networking skills
  • Self-motivated and ambitious with ability to motivate others and lead a team effectively
  • Good problem solving and project management skills
  • Self-starter – able to solve problems independently and be resourceful
