AI Lead


Job Summary

AIA has created a new role to help its leadership team define and shape our AI agenda.

In this high-profile leadership role, the AI Lead will be responsible for leading AIA’s exploration of where, why and how AI (cognitive and non cognitive) may be applied to improve AIA’s customer experience, distribution effectiveness, business processes and operating efficiency, while maintaining regulatory compliance.

The AI Lead will play a key role in explaining AI concepts to AIA’s leadership team, defining specific ‘use cases’ for potential adoption, and overseeing the integration of those as appropriate into our business to create measurable impact. The appointee will champion the selective launch and implementation of Proof of Concept projects across the 18 Asia Pacific markets that make up the AIA Group.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage business leaders on the business benefits that AI may offer to AIA
  • Identify opportunities to deploy AI to deliver tangible business value
  • Explore various AI applications, capabilities and platforms and make recommendations on their functionality, benefits and challenges
  • Lead the development of applications and proofs-of-concept on AI based solutions that change or enhance the lifecycle of product and processes
  • Propose and define AIA’s AI roadmap and priorities
  • Set the direction for future technology investments in the AI field
  • Create and manage use cases to apply AI concepts in our business
  • Build awareness among AIA employees of the potential significance and value of AI by reporting on usage and highlighting focus areas
  • Develop and cascade AI best practices to AIA’s functions and business units
  • Lead the relationship with the IBM to continue to build out our capability across the Watson platform.
  • Identify and build partnerships with respected organisations within the AI community to enrich the internal understanding of this technology
  • Establish intellectual and commercial leadership for AIA in AI for Insurance


  • Advanced degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics or related quantitative field
  • Demonstrated working knowledge and expertise with AI related technologies including IBM Watson
  • Track record of success applying AI concepts to business opportunities and/or problems
  • Experience with IBM Watson, GO, Node.js, Angular.js, HTML5/CSS, Java, OAuth, RESTful services and/or similar
  • Ability to roll out solutions on AWS / Azure / IBM Softlayer preferred
  • Proven ability to explain the value of AI to business leaders
  • 5 + years of experience in software programming experience
  • Proven experience driving high-impact technology initiatives across complex, global organisations
  • Ability to pick up life and health insurance concepts quickly
    Demonstrated leadership qualities, including presentation, influencing and negotiation
  • Experience in strategic planning and change project management desirable
  • Fluency in written and spoken English essential
