Asset Management - Control Officer - Vice President

Asset Management Oversight and Controls Officer reports into the Head of Oversight and Control (O&C) for Asset Management.


The Office of Oversight and Control works closely with Asset Management’s Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), CEO of Asset Management as well the Chief Control Officer for JPMorgan Chase.

The Oversight and Control Group’s primary function is to solidify an effective Firm wide control framework, looking within and across the lines of business, to identify and remediate control issues with a sense of urgency regardless of the source. The Team will partner with all other control disciplines, adding an additional line of defense supporting Compliance, Risk and Audit, among others.

The Team will work in partnership on the development of new, and oversight of existing, control functions and protocols throughout the Firm and will provide a centralized view of and from all control functions, assisting in immediate, real time problem detection and escalation.

This process will enable the firm to engage the appropriate teams in a timely manner, and provide the ability to quickly remediate critical control issues across all the impacted areas of the firm. While ultimate responsibility for the effectiveness of the control environment rests with the Line Of Business CEO’s and the Corporate Function Heads, the Oversight & Control Team will partner closely with the Audit and Risk Committees, the Operating Committee, and the Board of Directors of JP Morgan Chase, and all Lines of Business, Legal, Compliance and Technology as well as other groups within the Firm.

Oversight & Control Group will have team members globally across the US, EMEA, Asia and Latin America, and as such, will bring a global perspective and globally coordinated approach to compliance oversight.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Execute project plans and programs to develop a regional control agenda across identified business groups;
  • Partner with the global control team to develop and execute the RCSA program. Assist the business to identify specific risks (inherent & residual) and associated risk ratings, control assessments (evidence, findings & conclusions) and control ratings, as well as business guidance & procedures following the RCSA standards set forth for the Firm
  • Oversee the entire life cycle of issue management; where necessary coordinate the KEYS process and other activities to validate appropriate actions have been taken in accordance with stated action plans.
  • For more significant matters, partner with the business in the development of plans that address issue root cause and develop appropriate MIS to track the progress of action plans so as to ensure completion within stated timeframes.
  • Develop excellent cross functional working relationships with all regional business partners.
  • Track, prepare for and help oversee internal and external examinations; ensure consistency and single messaging with external parties responsible for oversight and regulation.
  • Develop a cohesive and effective partnership with Senior Business leaders, Control Teams, Legal, Compliance, Audit, Operations, so as to build and implement a control framework.
  • Partner with other control colleagues across the firm to identify and analyze trends and remediation plans that are highlighted across multiple exams and then work to ensure they are appropriately and consistently addressed.
  • Effectively manage programs and work-streams; reporting, data collection, and data analysis; ensure periodic and ad hoc management reporting is completed, timely and accurately.
  • Set up and manage a monthly Operational Control, Control Committee for the region.
  • Represent Oversight and Control for Operational Control at relevant committees and forums in the region.
Qualifications:
  • Strong background in business management and the ability to lead, negotiate, implement best practices, set priorities, plan, facilitate collaboration, coach, direct activities, and hold teams accountable
  • Expertise in the effective presentation / visualization of data / findings and the ability to proactively communicate through management updates, presentations, and regular reporting
  • Strong analytical skills particularly in regard to assessing the impact of internal control weakness and themes across the supported businesses.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to present information in differing degrees of detail and form depending on the audience.
  • 7-10 years experience in business management, finance, risk and/or operational management roles with a strong track record working across organizational lines
  • Strong background in, and familiarity with Asset Management business or corporate functions would be helpful
  • Outstanding ability to analyze problems and successfully implement high visibility projects
  • A high level of attention to detail and quality assurance
  • Proven ability to build strong partnerships with colleagues, desire to learn quickly, be flexible and think strategically
