Overview
A critical priority for Asset & Wealth Management is to ensure that high-quality data is available to run our business and meet our clients' needs. The Asset & Wealth Management Chief Data Office (CDO) was established in 2014 to define AWM's data strategy and support for the core data used across AWM and needed to run our business, such as client data, reference data, product data, securities and pricing data, transactions and holdings, and index data. The AWM CDO is positioned in the Asset & Wealth Management Operations division, within AWM Center. We work with the AWM business and Firmwide CDO to analyze data, ensure data governance and data quality standards are in place, look for efficiencies in business processes and associated market and reference data costs, and work with our technology partners to implement solutions.

The Executive Director Role will manage the newly created hub, based in the Hong Kong office, leading a team of 3-4 APAC based staff, leading the CDO function across the region. The role will focus on data requirements and issues in the Asia Pacific region, insuring CDO leadership for critical projects and programs that require support across all towers within CDO, namely Securities & Pricing, Index & Benchmarks, Party & Account, Funds Product & Data strategy, Data Quality governance and adherence in the region.

The Executive Director will manage the APAC CDO function and be the trusted CDO partner for Asia Pacific, ensure their needs are properly represented as we define improvements to our core data platforms. These efforts cover a wide range of technical and operational efforts which support the core data platforms including; Manta, EDPI, Ilite, PANDA, ProductConnect, and Investment Products Data & DQM. The Executive Director will manage the team overseeing the creation, modification, implementation, and adoption of golden sources, by downstream systems/applications, across the entire APAC Asset & Wealth Management organization. The role will collaborate with business, compliance, finance, risk and technology teams to plan, manage, and track the enhancements needed by Asia Pacific, manage execution risks, and issues to ensure successful implementation of changes to our core platforms. Additionally, the role will provide leadership in the region to establish formal data governance, ownership, and consistent/standardized definitions for golden sources. The candidate must be able to drive change towards regional and global consistency and solve challenges and problems in implementing the strategic vision.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Define and manage requirements and enhancements to implement applications for all data domains, to drive adoption of golden sources, and help to implement data quality standards and processes across the APAC region
  • Manage, coach and develop staff, delegating appropriately and disseminating communication effectively
  • Balance APAC business requirements against global CDO deliverables and prioritize appropriately
  • Effectively escalate issue both at a regional and global level
  • Become familiar with country specifc regulatory requirements in the 7 countries that AWM operate in APAC and ensure proper controls, governance are in place to be in compliance from a data privacy/confidentiality perspective
  • Establish and own data governance forum, including identification of data owners for the region with appropriate stakeholders
  • Ensure the AWM CDO deliverables are delivered in a timely manner of high quality
  • Collaborate with business, compliance, risk, finance and technology to plan, manage, and track the projects, any evolving risks, issues
  • Specifically partner with the AM organization delivering ‘Project Jade’ to ensure all data related issues are understood, tracked and resolved
  • Define and track metrics related to data programs in the region, as part of the overall CDO global roadmaps
  • Document and track indicators of performance and quality metrics related to the project
  • Host/attend project and program related meetings
  • Document and update materials and agenda for the Asset & Wealth Management CDO Steering Committee and various working groups
  • Partner with Global AWM CDO Vendor Management to identify the costs borne by the APAC region and devise appropriate strategies to reduce reliance on external data, consolidate feeds where appropriate and ultimately evidence a reduction in the market data costs borne by the APAC AWM business

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a major financial services organization, with data or project management experience
  • 3 – 5 years in a senior leadership role managing staff and evidence of significant program delivery
  • Deep knowledge of data domains (Inc Securities, Party & Product data needed by an asset & wealth management organization.
  • Strong Knowledge of best practices for Business Requirements Documents (BRD’s)
  • Knowledge to translate requirements into data modelling, adhering to firm-wide architectural standards, such as logical to physical data modelling
  • Thorough understanding of the financial services industry and businesses (e.g., wealth management, retail, wholesale well as operations and technology functions)
  • Understanding of APAC region, country specific regulations related to data, and key challenges in conducting business in the region
  • Awareness of data related industry regulatory requirements
  • Awareness of data management practices, business and technology issues related to management of enterprise information assets and approaches related to data quality
  • Bachelor in Business Administration, Finance, Computer Science, MIS, or Information Management or equivalent
