The Education University of Hong Kong Library is seeking an experienced library professional with a strong background in academic library system and software development. The appointee will be assigned to System Services Section of the University Library with major duties including daily operation of various library systems, budget planning, staff supervision, providing technical support to library users and library staff, and assisting in hardware and software development. He/she will be responsible for developing applications for new services and projects based on requirements of different Library Sections, as well as different units of the University. The appointee will be required to perform reference duties at the Library Information Counter on a shift basis in evenings, weekends and public holidays.

Applicants should have a recognized degree plus a postgraduate qualification in Librarianship or Information Sciences (MLS, MCLIP or equivalent) with at least two years’ experience gained in a large academic library. Working experience gained in an IT software development environment and/or experience in developing applications for academic libraries are desirable. Applicants should have proven experience in Open-source web-based application development (Linux/Windows) while knowledge of latest development methods and techniques will be advantageous. Solid experience in CSS scripting, JavaScript, APIs, LAMP and coding are preferred. Applicants should also have experience and knowledge of the ALMA/Primo or equivalent large library system APIs/Analytics for integrating existing library applications, e.g. book recommendation system, patron mobile notification and other web-based applications. They are expected to be able to develop applications and solutions independently, as well as with University staff of various levels. Applicants should be proficient in English, Chinese and Putonghua, and have good problem solving, multiple tasking and analytical skills.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract. Fringe benefits include contract-end gratuity, leave, medical and dental benefits.
