Assistant Manager, Global Trade Compliance

Summary Statement: Under general supervision of the Manager Global Trade Compliance, the Global Trade Compliance Specialist II performs standard operations and compliance work as well as various data and regulatory analyses to ensure that the Company is in compliance with Asian Customs regulations. The Associate provides input and recommendations to the development of departmental processes and procedures. The Associate collaborates with other Shure locations, departments, outside agents, and customs brokers. The Associate represents the department at internal meetings or functions outside the office locally and elsewhere around the globe as needed.

Trade Operations Duties (60-70% of time and effort): 

  • Process customs clearances, China and Hong Kong import and export declarations, license permits and formalities, and general trade declaration processing to ensure goods are cleared through Customs, CIQ, and Ministries. Coordinate internally and externally as needed.
  • Prepare supporting documents required for import, export, and payment of duties, taxes, and related fees.
  • Perform HTS classification and country of origin analysis and determination for China, Hong Kong, and Japan.
  • Maintain trade data in SAP.
  • Pro-actively prevent trade issues and delays; timely problem resolution for shipment holds and other supply chain delays.
  • Support shipment entry and exit throughout Asia and in accordance with network procedures, country trade regulations and transit time standards.
  • Coordinate and liaise with external agencies and partners such as Customs, other government agencies and officials, customs brokers and other clearance agents, freight forwarders, consultants and advisors

Trade Compliance Duties (30-40% of time and effort):

  • Support, administer, and/or implement trade security programs relevant to the Asia region.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal working partners in support of trade compliance, supply chain, and general Company objectives and projects.  
  • Remain current with trade regulatory changes.
  • Audit trade compliance processes to ensure compliance with regulations of all government agencies.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain trade compliance procedures and policies.
  • Act as escalation point to internal stakeholders on matters related to trade and customs compliance.
  • Provide customs compliance training and education to Shure associates.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

 Requirements:  

  • Degree holder in Business, Supply Chain Management or other relevant disciplines with minimum of 5 years working experience in import and export processing
  • Knowledge of import and export concepts and business acumen beyond entry level.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and expertise in Asian trade regulations.
  • Exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
  • Work independently with strong with strong problem-solving and analytical skills under tight deadlines
  • Conversant with import and export laws and regulations governing Asian countries, especially China, Japan, and Hong Kong.
  • Willing to support growth of Asia trade operations and compliance in countries not mentioned within above “Duties".
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills in both written and spoken English, Cantonese, and Mandarin
  • Proficient in computer operating skills in MS Office / Excel; experience in using SAP or ERP systems are preferred
  • Occasional travel both domestically and internationally.
