The Division of Environment and Sustainability seeks to hire an Assistant Program Manager (Education Development) to serve as the primary point of contact for initiatives that relate to the education goals set forth in the HKUST 2020 Sustainability Challenge (the sustainability master plan for the University). With the goal that all students gain a solid understanding of sustainability concepts and graduate with the capacity and commitment to solve problems locally and globally, the appointee will coordinate with all necessary departments, offices, and campus groups to ensure that the sustainability education strategy is implemented. Responsibilities will fall within two main categories of priority:

Coordination and Collaboration
  • Serving as the primary resource for the Sustainability Education Advisory Group (SEAG) to ensure that work tasks are being completed in a timely manner and that the work is in line with the goals of the 2020 Challenge
  • Taking a leadership role in the formation and facilitation of the Sustainability Education Community of Practice
  • Harmonizing with service learning efforts, including student group projects in UST Connect, SIGHT, and Sustainable Campus Leadership Program
  • Authoring mid-term and year-end reports on activities, accomplishments, and proposals for future projects
  • Coordinating collaborative efforts in Hong Kong relating to SE, supporting the work of education-oriented working groups within the Hong Kong Sustainable Campus Consortium
  • Supporting sustainability foundation-level coursework, with primary focus on the flagship course SUST1000 Introduction to Sustainability to help shape the core understanding of sustainability in UG students
  • Focused analysis on the evolving status of sustainability-related coursework within the common core and course catalogue, including periodic catalog inventories, classification efforts, and development of branding schemes for broader visibility of sustainability courses
  • Developing and maintaining evaluation metrics for assessing sustainability literacy within the student base
  • Contributing to the establishment of innovative sustainability teaching and learning projects
  • Providing teaching support to instructor in class and running tutorials

Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in a field that emphasizes collaboration, understanding social or environmental issues, or communications with 1 to 3 years of post-degree experience in an educational or professional setting. Graphics or skills in visual communications are desirable. The appointee must be an excellent communicator, with fluency in English and outstanding writing and speaking skills, and experience in writing reports, proposals, and delivering presentations. The appointee must be a self-starter with familiarity in developing, leading, and facilitating successful projects with limited supervision. The appointee should have excellent organizational, interpersonal and analytical skills and the ability to thrive under conditions that become hectic at times. Attention to details and deadlines is expected, as well as the ability to work independently. Passion for sustainability and a genuine interest in contributing to the improvement of the lives of others is highly valued. (Duration: 1 year, renewable)
