Assistant Purchasing Manager

Our client is a leading pan-Asian retailer, it operates supermarkets, hypermarkets, health and beauty stores, convenience stores, home furnishings stores and restaurants under well-known local brands. The role is responsible to assist the Senior Manager, Group Procurement, Food & Non-Food in the delivery of purchasing strategy for Group Procurement Team, ensuring that the purchasing targets are met without scarifying the quality.


  • Measure effectiveness of Group and local corporate brand merchandising initiatives and activities

  • Negotiate and work with suppliers to build mutually beneficial relationships to ensure long term strategic partnership, leading to lower cost and higher margin

  • Develop and enhance supplier network and relationships to ensure right price, quality and on-time deliveries

  • Have a keen awareness of both competitive activity and the industry purchasing initiatives globally and detail to Group Procurement Team

  • Benchmark, measure and analyze product, category sales and market share data in each location for tracking performance

  • Ensure effective integration with Corporate Brand Team and respective local merchandise, market and operations practice and culture

  • Perform all necessary administrative duties for the Group Procurement Team

  • Source potential suppliers and support the team to bring the products to tender and perform follow-up works

  • Facilitate post-tender discussions that will lead to final agreements with individual businesses

  • Manage contractual relationships with suppliers

  • Train subordinates ensuring that they are customer and product focused

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Professional Diploma or Degree in Purchasing or related business discipline

  • Minimum 6 years solid experience with Product and Suppliers sourcing and Merchandising

  • Self-motivation, well organized, efficient and ability to work independently

  • Strong analytical and problem solving abilities

  • Achievement and goal oriented with good organizational skills

  • Demonstrable strong influencing and negotiation skills

  • Ability to handle high pressure situations and deadlines

  • Good spoken English and Chinese
