Assistant Technical Officer (Ref. 220808005-IE)


The appointee will be responsible for all technical tasks and administrative duties for the Structural Engineering Research Laboratory. He/She will be required to:

(a) supervise laboratory sessions and assist in the fabrication, setup, instrumentation and testing of research projects, which are carried out in or outside the laboratories / workshops of the Department;

(b) provide technical support and operate Multi-purpose Testing Systems, loading frames, actuators, data acquisition systems, LVDTs, loadcells, inclinometers, overhead crane, forklift truck, etc.;

(c) coordinate teaching and research support activities among the laboratories / workshops of the Department;

(d) provide assistance to academics in charge of laboratories in management, safety, maintenance and development of laboratories / workshops;

(e) provide support to departmental events, e.g. University Information Day and Orientation Day; and

(f) perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Unit or his/her delegates.


Applicants should have:

(a) a recognised degree / higher diploma in Civil & Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other related disciplines;

(b) at least three years of relevant post-qualification experience, preferably with experience in administration or management of workshops or laboratories in tertiary institutions;

(c) a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese, with fluency in Putonghua; and

(d) strong analytical skills, and good interpersonal and communication skills.

Preference will be given to those with a valid driving licence of class 2 or above.   

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
