AVP – Research Writer

Moody's Investors Service is looking for a Research Writer to support its Project and Infrastructure Finance and Corporate Finance groups which provide credit ratings, research and risk analysis on a broad range of companies.

Role/Responsibilities :
The candidate will help develop research publications and work with analysts to improve the quality of research. The candidate will also coordinate with Moody's communication strategists and other internal divisions involved with delivering Moody's research to the market. The candidate will work closely with analysts, helping to shape sector reports and other topical research so that the content is readable and communicates pointed and clear analytical conclusions.

  • Through a combination of coaching, editing and writing, the research writer will:
    • Improve the quality of research as measured by our writing standards
    • Improve analysts’ compliance with our research principles, guidelines, CMS workflow, and controls
    • Improve the research writing skills of the analysts
    • Encourage and propose research ideas
    • Improve the research process
    • Foster partnerships with the analysts and their teams
  • Shape and/or review outlines of research in line with Moody's approach and house style
  • In partnership with the author, help to express the thesis and support the author throughout the authoring process; drive the editing/review process
  • Prepare drafts in partnership with author
  • Drive process improvements


  • A relevant university degree, such as journalism, economics, business or finance
  • 5+ years of relevant experience. Background in financial journalism, reporting and editing within a reputable news or business research organization. Or a research analyst with writing experience.
  • Strong writing skills. Strong headline-writing and copy-editing skills are essential.
  • Candidates must have a strong understanding of capital markets, and the debt markets in particular
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build strong professional relationships at all levels
  • Self-starter and able to adapt to change quickly and multi task; able to meet tight deadlines
  • Works well independently and in a group
  • Team player with the ability to balance multiple priorities

The Moody’s Investors service (MIS) Research Group manages research operations for MIS globally. Its research writers work closely with credit analysts, focusing on specific coverage areas such as corporates, structured finance, public, project and infrastructure finance, sovereigns, or financial institutions
