Role Description


The Global Fundamental Team is a content-led, idea generating function, using the backbone of broad client connectivity and sector knowledge to add value to both internal (Trading, ECM/IB) and External (Advisory clients, Trading desks, Corporate) clients, driving revenue generation across multiple channels.

The sector specialist is a central point of contact on their sector between research, trading, generalist sales, salestraders, derivatives and banking/ECM. Our clients within markets are some of the largest asset managers and hedge funds globally. The specialist is required to be an expert in their stocks - but also to provide a shorter term, more commercial view on how they will trade, both to clients and communicating closely with sector traders and heads of trading to enhance risk management in the underlying securities. Specialists are also a close partner with banking on IPOs, capital raises and secondary market block sales, providing market feedback and colour on valuations as well as view on likely client demand and price sensitivity.

Opportunity


The role is to lead the specialist sales coverage in Healthcare (Pharma, Biotech, Medtech) within APAC

Key responsibilities

  • Working with trading to monetise research calls, and enhance risk management
  • Working closely with research to commercialise research calls
  • Client calls and meetings on the sector
  • Working with banking on IPO pitches, primary capital raises and secondary market blocks within the sector coverage
  • Preparing daily & ad-hoc market commentary on key newsflow

Requirements

The sector specialist role is diverse and fast paced. Organisation, attention to detail and the ability to react quickly and calmly to events are key attributes. A background in equity research or sector trading or IB is useful, though not essential. A background in biological sciences or medicine is essential.

Essential skills

  • Strong knowledge of the sector
  • Excellent understanding of equity market valuations
  • Good working knowledge of credit markets and derivatives
  • Excellent time management skills, the candidate also needs to be able to write well and be highly articulate
  • Historical participation in either alpha capture within the sell side or experience on the buyside is preferable
  • Proficient at Mandarin
