Commercial Banking - APAC Controller - VP

Position Description

As part of the CB Controller team, the Asia Pacific Controller will play a key role in providing business advisory and accounting support, as well as end-to-end control oversight, ensuring integrity (timeliness, accuracy and completeness) of the financial statements. This role will report to the CB International Controller based in London.

The VP role will cover a wide range of responsibilities including, but not limited to:

  • Being the single point of contact for the business for questions on financial matters
  • Partnering with Front Office, Treasury, CFOs, Technology, Operations, Risk, Tax, Accounting Policy, Legal Entity Controllers, local and regional Controllers, External/Regulatory Reporting, Legal, Product/Financial Controllers, and other key stakeholders to ensure transactions are seamlessly executed and reported appropriately
  • Ensuring Line of Business by Legal Entity financials are accurate and timely by mitigating risks and implementing effective controls
  • Ensuring that product booking (inclusive of transfer pricing considerations) in legal entities comply with the applicable regulatory and accounting requirements, Firmwide policies, and legal entity agreements
  • Accountability for ensuring compliance with relevant US GAAP, local GAAP, and IFRS accounting standards, as well as internal corporate accounting policies, legal entity control standards, regulatory requirements and other applicable Firmwide standards
  • Demonstrating a clear understanding of CB's product offering, explaining key drivers impacting the balance sheet and income statement and providing insightful analysis to facilitate effective and focused management of the business
  • Participating in business decisions and strategy by providing financial and accounting expertise and challenging conventional business views for existing and new business initiatives
  • Continuously improving the way we do business through review of current practices/processes, identifying deficiencies and/or weaknesses, and delivering solutions to enhance the current control framework of the business, particularly through innovation employing automation technology
  • Partnering with Business Management and Planning & Analysis functions to ensure that legal entity, country and regional plans/forecasts have the appropriate review, governance and oversight
  • Managing and developing one Associate (new hire)

Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred
  • Chartered Accountant or equivalent professional credentials is a must
  • Previous role at a large public accounting firm, financial institution, and/or product control experience preferred
  • 8+ years accounting, finance, tax and or audit experience with banking experience a plus
  • Working knowledge of US GAAP, Local GAAP and IFRS
  • Working knowledge of Transfer Pricing
  • Superior analytical acumen and investigative problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexibility to work under pressure to meet changing work requirements and strict deadlines, including working certain weekends during quarter-end close
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, including the ability to tailor a message to different audiences in a concise and persuasive manner
  • Ability to partner effectively across varying levels of seniority with strong influencing and facilitation skills
  • Experience in managing a team and coaching/developing junior staff
  • Superior skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated knowledge of data management concepts and experience in at least one or more Business Intelligence toolsets: e.g., Tableau, Alteryx, Python, Qliksense, Xceptor, Databases, SQL or similar query language
  • Knowledge of SAP-CDGL, Business Objects, Essbase, Loan IQ and SAPCO a plus
