The fundamental responsibility of the role is to analyse new mandates and clients, and make decisions on conflicts of interest and other compliance issues, taking into account legal / regulatory requirements and firm policy, as well as reputational and commercial conflict implications. Accordingly, the role includes the following responsibilities:
  • Assessing whether new mandates can be accepted in the context of current conflicts rules and other regulatory requirements, as well as internal policies, across the full range of practice areas within the Firm. This will often require liaising with partners and lawyers in the context of a range of related mandates, many of which are highly complex transactions.
  • Where potential issues are identified, identifying solutions and advising the partners on implementing them, or determining that instructions must be declined where appropriate.
  • Liaising with key partners to assist with resolving potential commercial or reputational issues for the Firm.
  • Analysing whether any sanctions regimes apply to a new mandate.
  • Assessing and making decisions on whether changes to existing mandates create any conflict or other compliance issues for the Firm.
  • Analysing information contained in the Firm's conflict management systems.
  • Establishing and maintaining information barriers.
  • Dealing with ad hoc questions/queries from Partners and lawyers relating to conflicts of interest and other engagement risk issues.

  • Previous experience with the management of conflicts and other compliance issues is preferable.
  • Qualified lawyers with experience of working in a commercial law environment would be preferred, but suitably experienced candidates who are not qualified lawyers may be considered.
  • Self starter and ability to work independently with minimal support.
  • Proven ability to solve problems in a methodical and practical way, and a developed awareness of commercial issues.
  • The ability to gather and analyse information and to use the results of that analysis to make effective decisions and find innovative solutions to problems.
  • Ability to communicate persuasively and clearly with all members of the Firm, both orally and in writing.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Responsiveness to the demands of partners and lawyers, and ability to work under pressure and on your own initiative.
  • The ability to plan and organise effectively in order to meet business priorities.
  • A quick learner able to adapt to new principles, processes and technology.
  • The ability to form and maintain strong working relationships with others.
