Corporate Finance - Syndicate desk - EMTN Arbitrage

Overview:

Debt Capital Markets (DCM) brings the Bank’s regional treasury suite client coverage, under the Financing and Solutions Group (FSG), together with debt origination, structuring, syndication and issuance and loan portfolio products.

The Syndicate desk is split into 2 parts, public benchmark and private debt syndicate (PDS). Both the public and private side are recognised as market leaders in Europe.

This role will report into the public desk but work seamlessly with PDS to originate and execute EMTNs with the goal being to generate PnL, improve client relationships and improve DB positioning for Benchmark business. The individual will be responsible across all product verticals – Financials, SSA, Corporate and EM.


Key responsibilities:

  • Global coordination, the role will report to Europe, whilst working in Asia. The role is the key link for coordinating issuer and investor flows across the globe
  • focus on predominantly short term arbitrage opportunities for corporate / financial / SSA / EM issuer clients in private placement format
  • role would be sitting in between / liasing with public syndicate desk and Private debt syndicate
  • focusing on a list of target issuers to deliver bespoke / arbitrage funding opportunities
  • reporting into public syndicate and PDS
  • The role will involve close cooperation with the new issue syndicate desk, secondary trading, swap trading desks, fixed income sales globally and other groups within Global markets.

You will have:

  • Proactive individual, willing to take risk
  • Ability to speak to issuers / investors direct
  • English, Mandarin and Cantonese language skills essential
  • Ability to spot issuance opportunities in multiple currencies
  • The candidate will need to be very fluent in both cash bond and derivatives. Transactions will need to pitched, marketed, executed and closed.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential in this role and candidates would be expected to form strong relationships with clients and with colleagues across the bank.
  • An entrepreneurial mind-set is beneficial with the courage to challenge the status quo and develop new ideas for revenue opportunities.
  • Excellent organisational skills, good analytical rigour and a high attention to detail.
