Credit and Client Accounting Manager

The Role
You will be managing a team of Account Managers who are responsible for all aspects of client’s transactions when buying and selling at Christie’s at both Auction and Privately. You will be reporting to and supporting the RMD, Credit & Client Accounting. The departments objective is to ensure that we provide a high level of customer service to both external and internal clients and that we continuously seek to improve the client experiences.

Primary Responsibilities will include but are not limited to
People Management and Leadership
• To ensure effective communication between senior management and the team, keeping them up to date regarding any process or policy changes and other key information.
• Resource planning to ensure deadlines are met and that there is adequate cover for all key auctions and events.
• Escalation point for the team when urgent or complex issues arise.
• Monitor team performance to ensure that deadlines and standards are being met.
• Be an advocate for the Client Accounting team, best practice and compliance. Drive healthy behaviours, development plans and leadership effectiveness.
• Identify inefficiencies/bottlenecks in end-to-end processes within the team and actively ‘challenge the status-quo’.
• Work closely with Regional Financial Controller to drive process efficiencies through defining roles and responsibilities and handoffs between Accounting Operations and Client Accounting activities.

Transactional Management
• Oversee the transactions for all sales from the pre-sales checks through to settlement, ensuring that they are being managed in accordance with our policies and processes, including but not limited to:
• Request Financial references/deposits/KYC as and when required as part of the bidder review process
• Extended payment term requests (in conjunction with Commercial Finance), including Cashflow management thereof
• Ensuring all payment instructions are received pre-sale
• Adherence to key settlement deadlines
• Debt chasing locally and globally for Asian buyers
• Review the ledgers to ensure all amendments and accounting is correct
• Specialist department communications along the journey
• Commercial Office Deal Management
• Client Statement Generation

Commercial Office Deal Management
• To work closely with our commercial office to facilitate the management of all transactional aspects of our contractual agreements with clients transacting with Christie’s.
• Attending meetings to gain an understanding of a deal’s structure.
• Coordinating the team to ensure that contractual agreements are met.
• Preparing manual client statements.
• Making amendments to client’s accounts to reflect the financial position of a deal whilst ensuring that the general ledger account coding is correct.
• Ensuring that deadlines for contractual agreements are managed and followed up.

Managing Stakeholder Relationships
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with finance and specialist department.
• Build and maintain strong links with Regional counterparts.
• Manage the proactive communication of the position of a sale and other appropriate information with regards to the buyers and sellers to the Specialist departments and other appropriate stakeholders.
• Field, resolve or escalate where appropriate both internal and external inquiries regarding client transactions.

The Candidate
 Knowledge of accounting required
 We are seeking someone with management or supervisory experience.
 A self-motivated, natural organiser who is an effective problem solver and is solutions focused.
 Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
 You will focus on constantly reviewing and improving efficiencies and effectiveness of our systems and processes.
 Track record of strong client relationship management skills
 Minimum 8 years of front of house client management experience, preferably in luxury sector.
 Experience using MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and preferably JDE systems or similar.
