Engineering Manager - South East Asia

Job Description:

This position will be based in Singapore. Reporting to Managing Director, SE Asia, the Engineer Manager is responsible for defining the basis of design of utility-scale solar plants across the region, while directly supporting the overall EPC and project function from development to execution.  This role will liaise with engineering resources across the company (and specifically the Engineering Execution Centre in India) to ensure  he production of the most efficient design solutions considering site conditions, local contractor sophistication, constructability, quality, cost and performance. The EM will ensure the timely completion of key deliverables such as PV plant layout, project configuration matrix, and conceptual single line drawing, project bill of material and PVSYST model, which will directly support the development and execution phases of the projects.  The EM will be responsible for the QA on all engineering outputs and be the final sign off prior to release to the relevant functions.



  • Manage the flow of work between the region and the EEC with respect to the production of design outputs such as PVSYST reports, layout, site development plans, conceptual electrical single line drawings.
  • Oversee creation of system schematics, drawings, and schedules.
  • Review all system design and engineering work created by EPC partners and recommend any necessary changes to ensure maximum system performance and reliability as well as the highest possible return on investment
  • Conduct comprehensive due diligence for solar project opportunities
  • Support the project development team with feasibility studies and the production of high level design.
  • Utilize and develop relationships with solar array component manufacturers to understand product and solution availability within various markets.
  • Support Procurement by developing and maintaining equipment specifications as well as identify future solutions for solar array components.
  • Optimize PV design including component selection, module string sizing, conductor sizing, etc.
  • Lead continuous improvements of design standards, specifications and design processes.
  • Provide expertise in creating standardized engineering drawings for PV system layouts; structural supports; electrical systems, etc.
  • Adhere to all health and safety rules and company policies.
  • Review and evaluate equipment RFP’s and provide recommendations on selection.
  • Complete other duties and projects as assigned.



  • Bachelor or Master's degree in an Engineering Discipline; Electrical Engineering preferred
  • Minimum of 10+ years of engineering experience, including 5-7 years within the renewable energy sector directly supporting the development and execution of projects.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Wide knowledge of relevant regulations and standards (e.g., electrical code, building codes, international design standards).
  • Deep understanding of PV system owner requirements, including equipment, warranty considerations, long-term reliability, price/performance sensitivities, monitoring systems and total cost of ownership models.
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of solar array components and solutions throughout various markets.
  • Experience engaging with and evaluating equipment vendors and service providers (including engineering firms and EPC contractors).
  • Ability to read & understand electrical, structural, mechanical & architectural drawings
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to effectively lead, manage, and motivate junior and intermediate staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Must be self-driven, highly motivated & able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to multi-task & manage numerous projects simultaneously.
  • High degree of attention to detail & follow-through.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, PVSYST, MS Excel.
  • Work will be performed in a standard office environment, in front of a computer monitor and will involve sitting, bending, and standing, walking, typing, and reaching.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time throughout the South East Asia region
  • Must be fluent in English, knowledge of Mandarin Chinese or a regional language would be a benefit
  • Ability to work cross-functionally, collaboratively and cross-culturally.
