External Relationship Manager

ORGANISATIONAL UNIT: University of Manchester Worldwide – East Asia Centre               

Key responsibilities:

  • To engage alumni with the School/UMW and create mutually beneficial relationships
  • To initiate and/or contribute to marketing, events and special projects involving Corporate relations
  • To create proactively the corporate identity of a company through traditional and new media channels. The post holder may do this by the writing and editing of event scripts, speeches, shareholder documents and reports, advertising and promotional materials, press releases, interviews and any other external communications.
  • To develop cooperative relationships with business contacts, Manchester stakeholders, public officials, government regulators and professional institutions to maintain the UMW's reputation, while paving the way for future business partnerships and opportunities.


  • Have at least 7 years experienced in relationship building and management of external stakeholders e.g. clients and alumni
  • Be a graduate and have good command of spoken and written English and Chinese, and some fluency in Putonghua
  • Well-organized, mature and able to work independently under pressure and tight schedules
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, and ability to communicate with all levels of seniority.
  • Confident, friendly and outgoing personality
  • Experienced in event management
  • Good negotiating and presentation skills
  • Be self-motivated with a positive ‘can do’ attitude and the ability to manage own workload.
  • Have the ability to build strong business relations and to adapt positively to change. 
  • Willing to work overtime with overseas travel
  • Genuine self-starter with initiative and self-motivation
  • Ability to manage and prioritise different workloads and meet deadlines.
