Client Details

Our client is a German market leading logistic company. Due to their expansion in their air freight business, they are looking for an industry expert to join their management team.

  • Develop Air Freight strategy in order to meet strategic goals
  • Meet budgets for air freight business & trade lane development
  • Develop innovative and profitable products and meet budgets for product development
  • End-to-end responsibility for air freight process efficiency & quality
  • Maintain & improve GP margin according to Business Unit strategic objectives
  • Management of the air freight business unit of the country subsidiary in line with the global air freight strategy:
    • Active budget planning and steering of budget achievement
    • Ensure the relevant GBOs are met
    • Initiate and steer the development of measures in order to:
      • develop the local air freight import & export business and trade lane development (GP, GP margin, EBT)
      • maintain and improve air freight operation (and local HUB de/consolidation) process efficiency & quality
    • Ensure compliance with the relevant regulations and standards (e.g. Customs, Dangerous goods, air freight security, Code of Conduct, FCPA etc.) within the air freight departments
    • Ensure timely delivery of the monthly air freight reporting
    • Perform yield management
  • Manage product development:
    • Definition, implementation, external and internal promotion and further development of new and existing air freight products (import/export)
    • Develop business case (selling prices, volumes, GP impact), perform market testing
    • Align with sales in order to achieve budget for the business unit Air
    • Develop product branding, run advertising and promotion campaign
    • Track and analyze sales figures, review/ adjust product offerings, manage product life cycle
  • Manage local air freight procurement:
    • Develop local sourcing strategies, analyze spend profile, seek opportunities to improve efficiency and value
    • Monitor usage and ensure spend with carriers according to our carrier classifications; provide reporting
    • Develop and maintain relationship with carriers at relevant levels in order to develop air freight services

  • Acquisition of new and expansion of existing business of Silver customers and beyond in alignment with local sales
  • Internal communication regarding local air freight market developments and updates of airfreight rates; Contact of escalation of air freight issues for the country subsidiary

  • Functional direction of the air freight departments/ branch managers in regards to the implementation of the air freight strategy:
    • Set functional targets in line with the global air freight strategy:
      • Trade Lane development
      • Identify and approach of strategic accounts
      • Risk analysis and decision on investments
      • Assistance of budget- and forecast process
    • Provides input for target settings/ achievements of the air freight team
    • Suggest performance management measures
    • Provide support to initiate measures to ensure optimum qualification of the air freight team in consultation with HR

  • Technical competence: Deep understanding of air freight forwarding market & processes; basic knowledge of finance (balance sheets, reporting, KPIs)/ college degree or business degree preferable; knows project management & business planning; min. 5 years professional experience within the air freight forwarding industry
  • Personality: passionate, empathetic, decisive, humble, willing to listen, reflect, learn and grow, courageous, ethical, inspiring, resilient, creative, can do attitude, balances power and responsibility, reliable, accountable, visionary
