Head of Business Development, Private Equity Conferences – Asia

In this role, you will be an integral part of the conference team. Your primary role will be to drive new business, primarily sponsorship revenue, for the Private Equity Group of PEI Media in Asia with responsibility for developing the private equity portfolio of events. You will also be responsible for researching, developing and executing the sales pipeline for a new series of PEI events for the Australian market. Under the guidance of the Director of Conferences, you will formulate the business strategy and tactics to drive high value sales from new and existing clients and create value rich sponsorship packages and proposals to deliver sustainable top-line growth.

Key deliverables/expectations

  • Consistently exceed sales targets
  • Manage the entire business development process (prospect, qualify, proposal, negotiate and close) for your events and work effectively with other functions within PEI to over achieve sales targets
  • Ability to formulate event strategies based on research
  • Maintain personal responsibility and maximise revenue for a defined portfolio
  • Perform to a level of set sales KPIs (yield, client volumes, conversion rates, output etc) to drive top-line growth.
  • ?Combine telephone and face to face sales to grow corporate accounts
  • Ability to work to a short sales cycle
  • Keep abreast of industry news and constantly source new leads
  • Have the ability and market knowledge to engage C-level decision makers
  • Actively grow market knowledge through immersion in company products and seeking out knowledge and insight from colleagues and customers
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout Asia and Australia and frequently to US and Europe.

Experience, skills and professional attributes:

To succeed in the role you must have:

  • At least 10 years proven experience selling event sponsorship within a B2B role OR sales within the fund management sector with knowledge of the events space
  • Experience presenting to and negotiating with C suite decision makers of large multi-national businesses
  • Knowledge of events and sponsorship industry
  • A strong understanding and focus on the right KPI measures
  • Incessant curiosity to learn about people and markets and the ability to tailor solutions to client needs
  • The ability and desire to set the agenda and drive commercial change in a highly successful organisation
  • A strong work ethic and proactive attitude to winning new business
  • Essential native level English & one other Asian language preferred e.g. Mandarin
