Purpose of the Role:
To lead the Claims team in Hong Kong and work with Underwriters, Brokers and Customers to provide a quality claims services for all portfolios.


  • Implement and communicate a claims strategy to support delivery of overall business targets.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of appropriate processes, procedures and strategies for the Claims function to support delivery of business targets.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of a strategic approach to ensure key customers are identified and retained within the business to optimise profitability.
  • Use planned business levels and knowledge of the Claims environment to forecast Claims activity and support decision making.
  • Monitor and manage Claims service performance to ensure control of reliable prediction of Claims cost and frequency.
  • Develop and implement processes to ensure that the Claims function is aligned to the needs of the business and work closely with underwriters and other business functions.
  • Compliance with best practice, regulatory/legal requirements and QBE processes and polices.
  • Maintain Claims Quality Assurance system to ensure effective control and delivery of robust Claims processes.
  • Work with the entire Claims team to build and maintain relationships which support the acquisition and retention of profitable business.
  • Provide technical expertise and business acumen as a key public interface to develop QBE’s profile in the marketplace.
  • Devise, control, communicate and monitor and QBE claims reserving philosophy to drive forward Claims Handling expertise within QBE.
  • Deal with contagion or large event Claims impacting the business by having a proactive and reactive strategy.
  • Comply with the Reinsurer’s requirements of all Claims handling and management issues.
  • Lead and manage a team of Claims staff, to ensure that the overall output and quality of service provided by the team is within specified levels.
  • Motivate and develop the Claims team so as to ensure the required standards of performance and behaviour, and support the continuing personal and professional development of all team members.
  • Ensure the Claims/Underwriting team have sufficient knowledge or access to information to enable then to perform their role.


  • University Degree or professional qualification in insurance or related disciplines
  • At least 15 years’ relevant working experience with 5 years in a supervisory role and/or a proven capability to perform the job
  • Broad experience of working in commercial insurance claims.
  • Good working knowledge of claims classes, service requirements, claims systems and procedures.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and change management skills.
  • Good command of spoken and written English. Fluency in spoken and written Chinese is an advantage but not a must.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
