Job Description

What you will do

The right person listens to understand customer needs, probes to recognize opportunities, solves problems and recommends solutions. The candidate we are looking for must have passion for customer focus and service understanding to promote the Johnson Controls value proposition to building owners / facilities and information technology (IT) leaders.

The Lead Development Specialist will focus on desktop research, conducting outbound calls, campaign creation and management, qualifying and nurturing leads through the exploration process. To be successful, you will execute the sales process and cultivate growth by managing relationships.

Key aspects of the Lead Development Specialist role are:

  • Prospecting new leads by data mining and assignment from SFDC
  • Lead Scoring
  • Assess data quality & completeness
  • Identify whether current assets are eligible for upgrade / updating including any recent works
  • Assess opportunities for additional services
  • Confirm whether customer has budget, authority, need & timing (Lead scoring)
  • Campaign creation in SFDC
  • Review data qualified lead (DQL) and updating SFDC
  • Work with other internal stakeholders where required to identify and complete any required information prior to initiating customer contact.
  • Initiate customer communication on focused asset(s), gauge current status, customer needs & initial interest leveraging value proposition / risk of not performing.
  • Follow up with prospective customer as required
  • Confirm customer interest & timing
  • Communicate with local area teams based on Customer and lead readiness
  • Mark lead to be re-engaged or abandoned at a future date 

How you will do it

You will be responsible for generating service sales opportunities on specific targeted campaigns via phone, email and social leads.

Starting from a defined Customer list, you will promote the Johnson Controls service value proposition to building owners, facilities managers and IT managers.

Interacting with your customers on a daily basis, you will identify and offer appropriate solutions and then hand-off leads after qualification to outside sales partner.

What we look for


  • 0-2 years of Inside sales, telemarketing selling, or business experience
  • Undergraduate degree OR 2 year degree & relevant experience OR 5-7 years of professional sales experience
  • Proficiency with MS Office programs (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and internet based software
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively
  • A high level of integrity, and resilient temperament
  • Service minded, Customer centric self-starter
  • Adaptable and able to demonstrate active listening skills and Customer empathy


  • 1-4 years of Inside sales, telemarketing selling experience or business experience at a product company
  • Strong cold call skill and experience
  • Strong phone presence and experience dialing dozens of calls (45-60 on average) per day
  • Positive thinker and with high enthusiasm
  • Strong data mining and research experience in finding clients contacts
  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Marketing, Electronics, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Track record of over-achieving goals
  • Demonstrated ability to influence account decision makers at key levels
  • Strong phone presence and experience dialing dozens of calls (45-60 on average) per day
  • Experience working with a CRM database
  • Ability to rapidly build knowledge of Johnson Control’s product lines
