Cigna Global Health Options is a leading provider of medical insurance to high networth and globally mobile individuals. Due to continued expansion we have a great opportunity for an enthusiastic, highly motivated lawyer to support our Global Individual Private Medical Insurance (IPMI) team.

The IPMI business is a very fast paced, innovative and growing business and this role will suit an individual who is flexible, adapts to changing priorities and has the ability to deal with their own workload. In-house experience particularly in financial services and general insurance or healthcare is an advantage but is not required. The role will involve the provision of regulatory/compliance support and assistance to the IPMI business under the supervision of the Head of Legal and Compliance for IPMI in relation to our markets in Asia Pacific and some aspects of the Middle East. This role will involve taking a lead in being the link between our local legal and compliance teams (for the wider Cigna business) in Asia and our business operations worldwide ensuring that we are applying rules compliantly and consistently. This role will involve travel and the ability to work as part of a worldwide team. In addition the successful individual will have the ability to take a leading role in our new market entry and implementation teams, evaluating opportunities and setting up new country operations and products in Asia and elsewhere.
 
Job Description:

  • To take a leading role in providing compliance advice and support to the IPMI business in relation to a number of complex regulatory projects worldwide.
  • Working closely with cross disciplinary teams to deliver projects on time and in a fully compliant manner.
  • To liaise with the local legal and compliance teams in our Asian markets (Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and elsewhere) to ensure our IPMI operations continue to evolve and comply with local regulations.
  • Horizon scanning to alert the IPMI business of any changes in regulations in Asian markets.
  • To carry out specific work in conjunction with the Head of Legal and Compliance including the review and monitoring of relevant legislation and other relevant legislative changes. Provide training as appropriate to local teams (including assisting with/ creating the relevant training materials to be used), reviewing existing operational processes to ensure compliance.
  • Providing day to day support to IPMI sales and other staff based in Hong Kong, Singapore and other Asian markets.
  • Manage compliance monitoring and review process, manage and prioritise areas for review with the business and senior management. Highlight areas where there can be improvements in our compliance operations and work with our business to investigate and remediate these.
  • To provide data protection guidance and advice to the business as required for our Asian markets. Oversee complex data subject access requests according to the legislation and manage the overall process with support from other colleagues who can carry out Data Subject Access Request’s (DSAR’s) as directed and to advise staff as necessary should a change be necessary to the existing process. Investigate data protection breaches, assess risk and advise the business line on actions to be taken. Work with the Global Privacy Office on complex issues.
  • Manage the OFAC, Finscan and other required sanctions scanning, arrange the review of any potential matches and monitor the process to ensure appropriate checks are carried out. Manage relevant Anti Money Laundering processes.
  • To manage the third party due diligence process for Asian markets (particularly in relation to proposed broker relationships) on behalf of the Head of Legal and Compliance. Ensure that adequate records are maintained in relation to broker relationships.
  • General compliance duties including but not limited to creating, drafting and delivering compliance training. Providing guidance and advice to the IPMI business on general compliance issues and raising the awareness of compliance issues within the business.

Qualifications

Requirement:
  • Proven experience of working directly in a financial services organisation with an international focus and a good understanding of the relationship companies have with regulatory bodies
  • A good working knowledge of the regulatory environment in Hong Kong and/or one of our other main Asian markets is beneficial
  • A law degree
  • Analytical, problem solving and ability to implement effective solutions using creative drive.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Confident and effective provision of information to stakeholders enabling them to make accurate decisions based on the information provided.
  • Provision of quality presentations/training in a variety of settings.
  • Comfortable in challenging the business in order to improve processes that are in place.
  • Informed decision making based on knowledge of industry standards and policies.
  • Project management skills.
  • Proactive in approach to work.
  • Good record keeping skills.
  • Team player with ability to drive forward specific areas of responsibility.
