Legal Counsel (HR and Customer & International Business Development)

The Department

Our Legal Services Department provides legal support to all business units of the Club and associated companies.  The Club’s diverse business operations require the legal team to help the business units deal with complex matters by identifying risks and complications, guiding the business units around those obstacles whilst preserving the Club’s reputation and integrity. 

You will:

  • Provide legal advice and support to the business units of the Club and its associated companies, in relation to their operations and projects, including drafting and advising on contracts and other legal documents, reviewing and advising on marketing materials and other commercial documents, formulating and updating polices, rules and regulations and guidelines, and advising on legal issues relating to the business operations.
  • Provide legal support on employment-related matters, including drafting and advising on contracts and other legal documents, internal polices, processes and guidelines, advising on employment issues, including benefits and rewards, retirement schemes, discrimination and work injury cases, and providing legal support for handling and management of labour disputes.
  • Provide legal advice and support to the Customer & International Business Development division, in particular the Commingling Department on the drafting, reviewing and negotiation of commingling agreements and simulcast agreements.
  • Assist business units on legal requirements for operational licenses and permits, compliance related matters as well as corporate secretarial governance matters.
  • Assist in management of disputes, litigation, disciplinary proceedings, regulatory and other contentious matters and advise on strategies and approaches.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments in relation to the operations of the Club and its associated companies, analyse legal implications (including any changes necessary to current operations, policies and procedures), and provide updates and trainings on such developments to business units.
  • Manage engagement and performance of external legal counsel, and ensure that high quality, efficient and cost effective legal services is obtained.

You should:

  • Possess a law degree in Hong Kong or any major common law jurisdiction, and a post-graduate certificate in laws (PCLL) in Hong Kong.
  • Be a qualified solicitor in Hong Kong with at least 2 years’ post qualification experience.
  • Have solid experience in advising on and handling general corporate / commercial, employment law or dispute resolution / litigation matters gained from an international law firm or in-house position in a major corporation. In-house experience is an advantage but is not required.
  • Possess strong commercial acumen with solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Be able to liaise effectively with internal clients at all levels and able to balance the interests of all stakeholders.
  • Be a highly motivated self-starter with ability to multi-task and work under pressure and complete assignments within time constraints and deadlines.
  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills with excellent command of English and Chinese languages (Cantonese and Mandarin), with the ability to communicate effectively and draft documents in both languages.

Terms of Employment

The level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
