The postholder reports to the Assistant Librarian I (Technical Services). He/She is required to assist his/her supervisor in driving forward and co-ordinating the Digital Performing Arts Repository development and access to information in the Repository including metadata and authority to ensure data integrity and compliance with international standard. He/she is responsible for the procurement, ingestion, conversion, distribution and curation of information resources. He/She is responsible for creating and updating text to promote library resources, services, and activities on library webpage and other library publications. The postholder should be prepared to perform regular shift duties in both libraries at Wanchai and Bethanie campuses, and may be required to work on weekends and on public holidays.
(a) have a recognized degree and preferably in English and/or Chinese and/or Translation;
(b) have a minimum of 2 years’ post qualification experience;
(c) have good command of written and spoken Chinese and English;
(d) have excellent communication skill and strong interest in creative writing are all essential; and
(e) be attentive to details, have good time management and strong organizational skills.
Applicants with less experience will be considered for the position of Library Assistant II.
Preference will be given to those who possess one or more of the following:
(a) Previously worked in an academic library, or higher educational institution.
(b) Knowledge of digital library standards (e.g. Z39.50, OAI-PMH, METS and Dublin Core) and repository systems such as Digitool.
(c) Knowledge in creation and conversion of digital AV media formats, and digitization of analogue and printed materials.
(d) Knowledge in Photoshop, Microsoft Office Excel, email marketing tools will be advantageous.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
Appointment will be made on a two-year contract, with possibility of renewal, subject to mutual agreement. A gratuity payment equal up to 10% of basic salary earned during the contract period will be payable upon satisfactory completion of contract. Fringe benefits include leave, medical and dental benefits. Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
