The job holder will provide tier one and tier two literacy learning intervention through training, consultation, coaching, and modeling for teachers and provide direct instruction for students; and to promote literacy best practice at the School.

Key Responsibilities:
  • To collaborate with classroom teachers to help prepare literacy-based strategies and progress monitoring assessments.
  • To collaborate with teachers on reading strategies for individual, small group, and whole class instruction.
  • To collaborate with P1 teachers on methods of identifying students with literacy needs who may benefit from direct instruction in literacy foundations as they enter Grade 1.
  • To demonstrate effective practices and techniques for teachers to implement in the classroom to aid in developing literacy skills.
  • To develop, lead, and implement professional learning activities on literacy topics based on identified growth targets and needs of the School and/or teachers or teaching teams.
  • To work with students individually and/or small groups who need literacy intervention support.
  • To monitor the literacy “pulse" of the School by collecting, analyzing, and sharing relevant data and through discussions with parents, teachers, students, and administrators.
  • To serve on the school data team.
  • To assist in the MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) testing administration.
  • To chair the elementary school English Language Arts Committee.
  • To respond appropriately to identified needs and/or concerns as they arise by communicating with relevant individuals and taking appropriate action.
  • To adhere to appropriate provisions and guidelines of the teacher job description.

Qualification & Experience:
  • Bachelor degree in Education or Bachelor degree in any subjects with PGDE (Postgraduate Diploma of Education), or equivalent from an accredited university.
  • Holder of further qualification in the area of ELL, ESL, reading specialist education or special education is preferred.
  • At least 2 years of classroom teaching experience.
  • Proven experience as a literacy coach, reading specialist with literacy intervention instruction.
  • Previous experience in an international school and familiarity with North American curriculum is highly preferred.
  • Proven experience in developing and managing IEPs for students with disabilities.

  • Commitment to working with students with a genuine love. Passionate in nurturing students with patience care, understanding and empathy. Have a positive and optimistic outlook and warm personality.
  • Have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of individual needs issues.
  • Deep understanding of the developmental stages of reading and writing.
  • Strong written, grammatical, presentation, and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of a range of literacy assessment tools, including running records.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build a trust relationship with students and parents.
  • Ability to manage confrontation and challenging behavior. Able to stay calm in difficult situations.
  • Excellent knowledge of the content and pedagogy.
  • High level of personal accountability.
