Major Responsibilities

  • Planning and coordinating infrastructure projects/enhancements/changes with internal and external parties
  • Managing and leading a team of system specialists for system administration of mainframe systems, RS/6000 systems, and AS/400 systems, and managing database administration functions for DB2, Oracle and SQL Server
  • Managing and leading the team to provide technical support on system software and hardware
  • Managing the planning and implementation of periodic system software / hardware upgrade
  • Managing the implementation of new system software and hardware and performing various testing
  • Investigating developments in the hardware, operating systems and software packages and utilities areas under direction of the management with a view to making appropriate proposals for the improvement of services delivered to the users of the computer systems
  • Assisting the Deputy Head (IT Infrastructure) in preparing proposals, technical documents, operating budgets and various reports
  • Designing, producing and conducting appropriate training sessions to colleagues for new developments in the hardware and systems software components
  • Developing and executing procedures which ensure, at all times, the system security and integrity of the operating system, the application systems and the data used by them
  • Providing advice and assistance, as requested, on the features of, and the use of the operating systems software and utilities, the IBM mainframe, midrange and peripherals hardware
  • Sustaining a 99.95 percent or above availability production system by managing and maintaining effective emergency fix and contingency processes, and the skills required
  • Coordinating and monitoring the team performance, and providing supervision and guidance to the team members
  • Monitoring staff productivity and performance on an on-going basis, and taking appropriate actions for their better motivation and results
  • Cross training staff through job rotation where feasible
  • Ensuring the succession plan is properly in place for continuity and knowledge retention

 

Requirements

  • University education in information technology or electrical/electronic engineering
  • Over 10 years’ experience in mainframe/midrange production support and system programming preferably with at least 3 years at management position
  • Solid knowledge of IBM OS/390 and AIX, database systems and related system products
  • Good communication and supervisory skills
