Position Mission


HK&MC Optics Technical Manager should manage the implementation of all technical aspects of regional optical transmission projects, which includes feature content, delivery date and quality of the technical solution, from offer preparation through deployment activities and customer acceptance, system operation support as well.

  • Acts as the customer prime interface for all technical aspects of the solution and manages the day to day relationship with the customer;

  • Also acts an active contributor for Nokia Optics products/solution introduction, evolution and roadmap;

  • Plans, organizes and pilots the customer technical project in the framework of the Nokia Contract Implementation Process;

  • Coordinates the technical support activities involving other Nokia Departments;

  • Closely works with the Domain Architects and Integration Engineers to ensure delivery of the complex solution;

  • Support presales stage technical solution introduction and verification activities.


Key Responsibilities



Act as the primary technical interface towards external customer, subcontractors and 3rd party suppliers as well as internal teams (including PM, NPI, TAC/TEC, PLM, domain architect and presales solution, other domain TPMs), actively co-work with presales lead to gain wider and deeper business success;

Closely liaise with customer’s technical management team to ensure close relationship and fast response to customer requests;

Understands customers' technology strategy and professionally manages their technical expectations thru regular customer meeting/workshop/seminar etc. engagement approaches – to be customer’s reliable technical advisor or consultant;



Take full in charge of project implementation stage technical involvements together with PM to massively satisfy our customers;

Manages the implementation of all the technical aspects of a project, from the technical solution demo through deployment activities and customer acceptance;

Provide technical expertise for product introduction, testing, integration, upgrade/retrofit and acceptance;

Plans, organizes and pilots the Technical Project in the framework of the overall project;

Shares responsibilities between several CTs or deals with challenging technology areas (Multivendor (MV), Preventive Care, Expert Support, On-line SW Change Service, Interoperability testing (IOT), multiple competence areas e.g. WDM, OTN, SDH, Packet, NMS&SDN);

Oversees and coordinates with new product introduction teams for First Off applicable in the projects;

New Product introduction to customer and integration, close team work with pre-sales and business development team;

Actively provide technical consultant and support for customer’s network performance optimization and evolution plan;

Ensures operational continuity and smooth execution as well as network availability by implementing proactively BG/BL guidelines and PM@Nokia Methodology;

Supervise and support system maintenance stage technical AR ticket request from customers;

Manages technical escalations for technical support requests, emergency cases and outages internally and towards customer;

Monitors and reports customer’s life network performance and acts to ensure network’s availability including e.g. customer SLA fulfilment;

Ensures network availability with Care project team;

Performs Technical Risk Analysis, oversees the identifying risks for both customer and Nokia, proposes and implements risk mitigation actions;

Defines and executes network upgrades & retrofit strategies;

Identifies deliverables under his/her responsibility, plans & executes these deliverables taking care of cost & milestones;

Prepare and deliver progress reports, customized documents/presentations for technical activities and clarifications of critical issues;

Supporting internal project meetings to ensure all project technical commitments are on track and facilitate information exchange across to the different teams and stakeholders;

Providing regular executive and working level status reports to communicate the progress of the project;



Identify engineer resource upon individual project technical nature and propose resource plan to PM;

Validates the workload involved and expertise needed related to technical tasks;

Support PM on int./ext. engineer resource training and/or acquiring/leasing settlement;

Support PM on project work scope partially/fully outsource handling;

Travel on-site for customer meetings, workshops, advanced trainings, testing and related project transactions as required;



Support presales and business development stage technical solution validation and verification activity, including Demo, PoC and BMT test;

Support pre-sales lead on technical solution definition and new feature request;

Identifies and analyses customer needs and advises them on solution/technology/products that are the best fit;

Identifies new technical management related opportunities to expand business with the customer (e.g. network expansion, new features, software corrections implementations);

Bachelor or higher degree in Telecom/Data/Computer Networking Engineering or equivalent;
5+ years’ working experience in designing or/and implementing Optical transmission network;
7+ years’ working experience in Optical transmission network domain;
Working experience and knowledge of Nokia Optics products is an advantage;
Good understanding of the protocols/technologies/standards of WDM/OTN/SDH/Packet transmission;
Has technical background and soft skills to design, plan and execute or lead integration testing and validation activities;
Strong understanding of Project Management Tools and Methodology;
Nokia accreditation such as TPM or similar is an advantage;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience working directly with both business and technical stakeholders;
Comfortable to meet and discuss solutions/technology and technical escalation with customer senior management;
Clearly communicate (verbal and written) in English;
Able to speak Cantonese and/or Mandarin is an advantage;
Able to work independently, and in a team;
Able to manage activities under high pressure and critical deadlines;
Able to handle several important tasks at the same time;
Able to look at different factors and prioritize tasks;
Able to influence to get the right outcomes;
Able to travel overseas for Project work in short notice;
Skillfully use MS Office tools;
