Cloud Light provides research, development and manufacturing services of optical solutions, transceivers, active optical cables currently upto 400G mainly for datacom, telecom, automotive market for tier-1 customers globally. Cloud Light has been operated since 2004 as a business unit of a leading Japanese comprehensive electronic component manufacturer in Hong Kong and was spin-off in April 2018 to become an independent company. Cloud Light's R&D center is strategically located in Hong Kong whilst manufacturing plant and reliability and testing labs are located in Dongguan, China. Cloud Light’s R&D team is multinational comprising 32% Ph.D., 48% Master, and 20% Bachelor degree holders.

Cloud Light is urgently looking for various high caliber candidates to join the R&D team in Hong Kong to support the vast growing research and development projects to meet customer and market requirements, as well as product development of future technologies.

Job Description

Successful applicants will join our Hong Kong based R&D team to participate in design and characterization of photonic integrated circuits (PICs) as well as development of novel applications using PIC technology.


  • Responsible for simulation, design, and characterization of PICs;
  • Work with internal and external teams of various disciplines to deliver the design;
  • Participate in development of patent applications;
  • Occasional traveling is required;  


  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Electronic Engineering or Applied Physics or equivalent discipline
  • Fresh graduate or 1 year of relevant working experience
  • Familiar with the principle of optics and semiconductor physics
  • Good communication skills with the ability to work in an international team

Preferred Experience:

  • Deep knowledge of optical waveguide devices;
  • Solid understanding of the fabrication process of photonic integration;
  • Knowledgeable in both simulating, design, and testing PICs;
  • Proficient in computer programming languages such as MATLAB and Python;
  • Candidate with more experience may be considered as senior/principal engineer

Preferred Skills:

  • Deep knowledge of physics in optical devices (e.g. of optical waveguide devices, modulators, photodetectors, optical amplifiers, and lasers) and their use in subsystems and systems;
  • Hands-on experience with commercial photonic simulation and modeling tools (e.g., mode solvers, EME, FDTD), photonic design and layout software (e.g., Cadence Virtuoso, Luceda IPKISS, Tanner L-Edit, Synopsys OptoDesigner), and photonic characterization equipment and techniques;
  • Practical experience in PIC design and tape-out processes;
  • Experience of fabricating photonic components and PICs using hands-on cleanroom processing;
