Salary: Police Pay Scale Point 3 ($23,070) to Police Pay Scale Point 15 ($32,985) (Note 2) per month
Entry Requirements: (a) (i) Level 2 or equivalent (Note 3) or above in five subjects in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) (Notes 4&5), or equivalent; or
(ii) Level 2 (Note 6) / Grade E or above in five subjects in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) (Notes 4&5), or equivalent;
(b) (i) Level 2 (Note 6) or above in English Language in HKDSEE or HKCEE (Note 5), or equivalent;
(ii) Level 2 (Note 6) or above in Chinese Language in HKDSEE or HKCEE, or equivalent. Applicant without the minimum required Chinese language proficiency standard may also apply for the post. They will be referred to sit for and must pass the Government Standard Examination (Note 5); and
(iii) be able to read and write Chinese and speak fluent Cantonese;
(c) minimum physical standards as follows : -
Male : height 163 cm,weight 50 kg; Female : height 152 cm, weight 42 kg; physical fitness test is a prerequisite;
(d) pass an initial eyesight test without the aid of any eyesight correction tools; and
(e) must be permanent resident of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and have resided in Hong Kong for at least seven years.

(2) With effect from 1st April 2009, new recruits to Police Constable are eligible for 4 Long Service Increments from HK$33,915 (Police Pay Scale Point 16) to HK$36,915 (Police Pay Scale Point 19) upon completion of 12, 18, 24 and 30 years of satisfactory in-rank service.
(3) For civil service appointment purpose, “Attained with Distinction" in Applied Learning subjects (subject to a maximum of two Applied Learning subjects), and Grade C in Other Language subjects in the HKDSEE are accepted as equivalent to Level 3 in the New Senior Secondary subjects in the HKDSEE. “Attained" in Applied Learning subjects (subject to a maximum of two Applied Learning subjects), and Grade E in Other Language subjects in the HKDSEE are accepted as equivalent to Level 2 in the New Senior Secondary subjects in the HKDSEE.
(4) The subjects may include Chinese Language and English Language.
(5) Students who will attain the requisite academic qualification within the current academic year may also apply; if selected, appointment will be subject to their obtaining the requisite academic qualification within the current academic year.
(6) For civil service appointment purpose, ‘Grade C’ and ‘Grade E’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 3’ and ‘Level 2’ respectively in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.
Duties: A Police Constable is mainly deployed on performing a wide variety of police duties and may be posted to one of the many police formations in uniform branch, traffic wing, crime wing or the marine region. He/she will be subject to discipline under the Police Force Ordinance and is required to work shifts and / or irregular hours and work in an area outside the HKSAR.
Terms of Appointment: New recruits will be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years, and may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms upon satisfactory completion of the probationary period.
