R&D Project Manager

Primary responsibilities:

  • Oversee and provide administrative support to Athenex Hong Kong pre-clinical development program which comprises a diverse portfolio of oncology pipeline projects
  • Drive and coordinate in vitro and in vivo studies with Contract Research Organizations (CROs) and/or collaborating academic institutes
  • Review and analyze data submitted by CROs and/or collaborating institutes
  • Present scientific data and project updates to the Athenex HK team, the Global/US team members and senior management during regular meetings and teleconferences
  • Maintain awareness of current literature to ensure the team is kept up-to-date with the state-of-the-art of the technologies relevant to the team’s functional areas
  • Authors and reviews technical protocols, reports and other documents in support of various project development stages
  • Prepare and draft funding scheme proposals, and monitor both technical and financial progress of funded projects including the generation of progress reports/presentations
  • Provide timely support to collaborators include trouble-shooting of experiments, prepare supporting documents required by the funding agencies and secure additional resources requested by the projects
  • Assist in the preparation of regulatory documents in English and/or Chinese
  • Oversee R&D budget, obtain comparative quotations, liaise with suppliers/vendors and perform the procurement of equipment and laboratory supplies
  • Provide supervision to junior R&D staff
  • Occasional international travel for scientific and business meetings 
  • Handle any other relevant responsibilities and/or functions of the Athenex HK team, as assigned from time to time

 Education requirement:

  • PhD degree with 3+ years or MSc with 5+ years or BSc with 8+ years in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biochemistry or Life Science


  • Knowledge in cancer animal models and pharmacokinetics & pharmacodynamics of pre-clinical animal models
  • Sound understanding in the pharmaceutical development process
  • Practical experience with project management function would be an asset
  • Strong ethics, integrity, and credibility;
  • Produce quality deliverables/materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage multiple projects;
  • Good team player, dynamic, and hardworking;
  • Excellent command of both English and Chinese, both oral (including Putonghua in the latter case) and in writing, is a pre-requisite;
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication (both oral & written) and inter-personal skills;
  • Organized, reliable, effective and efficient;
  • Discreet and good judgment in handling/responding to confidential and sensitive information;
  • Be able and be willing to roll-up one’s sleeves to adapt to this time and age of maximizing one’s own and the overall corporate efficiency / effectiveness / competitiveness with the support of updated information technology available in the market;
  • Accurate, and very detail oriented;
  • Proactive, independent (including independent correspondences by electronic mail &/or in hard copy) and be able to prioritize (not only for oneself but also for the affected colleagues) and manage multiple tasks with a strong sense of responsibility for completing tasks;
  • Mature, results oriented with international mindset and strong personal drive to take initiative and get things done;
  • Excellent hands-on working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, especially Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint; be able to independently prepare and execute presentations, reports, graphs, charts, spreadsheets, etc.;
  • Good presentation skill; and
  • Willingness to travel.
