Regional Protection Underwriting Manager

The Role

  • To facilitate growth and long-term profitability of protection business written by the company in the responsible regions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the GMs in the Asia and Middle East regions in identifying protection new business opportunities; proactively consult with Sales, Distribution Partners and internal stakeholders to develop strategic business opportunities whilst maintaining the company’s risk appetite and acceptable profitability criteria
  • Review, recommend and implement appropriate underwriting and claims strategies and processes/systems to effectively manage the risks in Asia & Middle East and apply risk controls where required.
  • Compile and deliver regular reports to communicate risk information to key personnel
  • Develop mutually beneficial relationships with the local offices of reassurers and other providers of protection in Asia & Middle East, including local regulatory and industry bodies
  • Manage the protection customer service team and ensure adherence of team to agreed policy and procedures
  • Develop and maintain a robust MIS for all propositions on all sites and provide statistical data to drive strategy and monitor effectiveness against KPIs and budgets for the area

The Successful Candidate

  • Degree holder, with a minimum of 8 years’ experience in the insurance/ financial industry, of which 5 years were in protection underwriting and client servicing. FPC, ACII qualified.
  • Management experience in the development of operational processes, accustomed to Risk Management in a process-driven environment; experience and knowledge of management information and Risk management systems (ie CONDOR, Marlin, ERA) a plus
  • Thorough knowledge of products, systems and customer service processes and procedures including risk, new business and underwriting functions, with sound awareness of up-to-date market and regulatory requirements
  • Experienced dealing with Intermediaries and Sales personnel (brokers/IFA, etc.), reinsurers, medical clinics, with good relationships within the industry and participation in relevant committees and seminars
  • Demonstrate evidence of leading change, excellent negotiation and influencing skills; decisive, strong in problem- solving
  • Detail-oriented, skilful working with complex data; excellent numeracy and literacy skills
