Regional R&D IS Lead

Role overview:
The IS Senior Manager leads the delivery of IS services in support of the JAPAC R&D organisation’s goals and evolving business requirements. This is achieved through deep understanding of the technologies supporting R&D with immediate focus on Medical and Scientific Affairs, Compliance and Business Development. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for planning and managing the delivery of a portfolio of both global and regional projects in the region. The candidate will require knowledge of Medical Communications and Medical Affairs, including an understanding of the role of Medical Directors and Medical Liaisons in the execution of company strategy. Of particular importance is an understanding of – and experience with - technologies in support of client relationship management, content and digital asset management, web and mobile tools, and the application of analytics. As Amgen’s portfolio expands in the JAPAC region, there will be increased focus on other parts of R&D, such as Research, Clinical Development, Biostatistics, Regulatory Affairs, and Safety. It will be critical to provide leadership and support in these areas. The candidate will represent the global IT function at regional R&D business leadership and IT strategic meetings.

The successful candidate will be expected to work in a matrix style across local, regional and global business partners and IS colleagues. Excellent presentation and communications skills will be required, as well as a comfort and facility with engaging with regional senior level management.

Primary Focus/Accountability:

  • Ensure a strategic relationship and strong communication with APAC R&D business partners to form a deep understanding of priorities, capability needs and desired business outcomes.
  • Maintain a solid understanding of the external landscape of upcoming International regulations, new technologies and vendors supporting R&D Life Sciences processes.
  • In partnership with Global Service owners, establish and maintain the region-specific IS service roadmaps. Craft and manage annual detailed delivery plans and budget associated with the regional service delivery.
  • Work within a highly matrixed organization that includes business partners, direct team members, global IS service teams and external vendors.
  • On an ongoing basis, evaluate new demand and priorities and identify service improvement opportunities to ensure continued alignment to business goals.
  • Oversee and influence technology architecture and operations to support service objectives.
  • Represent the function at regional IS committees
  • Represent IS at regional R&D Business leadership meetings

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) and extensive experience in information technology
  • Experience leading a team of IS professionals in complex global organization in dynamic and challenging business environments
  • Strong Medical/Scientific Affairs business process and technology knowledge in life sciences.
  • Good learning agility.
  • Business partnership and strategy development experience
  • Experience dealing with senior business stakeholders
  • Exceptional communication skills (oral/written/presentation)
  • Experience working in a regulated industry (Biotech or Pharmaceutical)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Other than English, fluency in additional Asian languages would be an advantage
