The Shuyuan Science Program is a key part of the science curriculum at The ISF Academy. The Shuyuan program supports both scientific research and science education that is designed to increase awareness, understanding and participation of the sciences. Shuyuan research projects are intended to be conducted by students but also aim to make meaningful contributions to the body of scientific knowledge.

On top of the Shuyuan program, The Independent Schools Foundation (“the Foundation") is to establish a non-profit research and education center, The Charles Kao STEM Education Research Center, based on the principles and practices of STEM as applied to age groups from infants through to young adults. Stanford University’s Graduate School of Education is partnering with the Foundation to design and operate a Maker Space to host innovative technology projects for children. This Center will host education researchers and offer a range of internationally accredited and government-approved learning programs and courses with a strong STEM focus to students all over Hong Kong.

We currently have an exciting opportunity available for an energetic, qualified, and experienced candidate to join our Shuyuan team as a research assistant. This position will support both Shuyuan learning programs and courses, as well as the educational research project.


  • To coordinate the use of resources and facilities and provide assistance and advice in the practical needs of robotics and electronics projects.
  • To set up a new research space, maintain equipment (e.g. optical system, high speed camera, etc) and materials in safe and good order.
  • To assist in educational research projects in collaboration with Stanford University.
  • To carry out research protocols and contribute to the design, development and maintenance of specialist resources and/or long-term projects.
  • To ensure the availability of suitable materials and equipment, helping to compile orders and liaising or negotiating with suppliers and finance departments.
  • To work with outside researchers and organizations on a project basis.
  • To offer administrative support and perform other duties as assigned.
  • To maintain and promote a healthy, safe and efficient working environment


  •  Bachelor Degree or above in Physics, Electronics Engineering or Mechanical   Engineering (Fresh graduate will also be considered)
  •  With experience in drones for scientific projects is desirable
  •  Interested in nanotechnologies and other emerging technologies
  •  Good written and verbal communication skills in English and Chinese
  •  Meticulous, detail-oriented with high initiative
  •  Strong IT skills
  •  Ability to optimise novel protocols for Shuyuan programs and courses
