The main focus of the role is to act as the IFRS17 project leader to develop and implement actuarial reporting process for IFRS17 reporting, and ensure the compliance to IFRS17 standard and Group Accounting Policy. Be proactive to report all financial and operational implications to local management, Regional Office and Group Office. Lead the team to carrying the transition plan and resolve the technical issues.

Upon management request, the role may also act as an internal consultant to complete various actuarial projects that require advanced actuarial and financial knowledge; there will be involvement in technical design, development, enhancement and maintenance of actuarial models and reporting tools.

Job Responsibilities:

  • IFRS 17 technical and methodology development – Be the subject matter expertise to the principles of IFRS17 accounting standard. Take the lead to investigate and develop new reporting requirements within PHKL Actuarial. Drive the implementation project and PCA Pilot project in 2017-2021 to ensure PHKL’s compliance to IFRS 17 within the required timeline. Ensure project report and documentation are produced timely in according to PHKL Actuarial best practice
  • IFRS 17 Actuarial model development – Lead the actuarial discussion and assessment of the project scope and expectation to identify financial drivers and practical solutions; Construct the technical specification and model design; Lead junior members to carry out the model enhancement and robust change management; Analyze and interpret the financial results and findings; Present the end-to-end project conclusions and recommendations for senior management approval. Projects may include, but not limited to, development, maintenance and enhancement of actuarial models, both deterministic and stochastic; alignment of actual management practices and new product features for different reporting and analysis purposes
  • IFRS 17 technical advisory and governance – Provide insight of the financial and operational implications of various part of the IFRS 17 implementation project, and provide advanced technical supports and consultancy services to various key stakeholders within PHKL Actuarial and Finance, Reginal Office and Head Office. Interact with external consultants to ensure the deliverables of the projects are reviewed thoroughly with reasonable outcome. Ensure the final framework and local actuarial process are in compliance to the robust governance framework and audit process
  • Actuarial project support – Provide technical support on special actuarial projects assigned by the Director of Chief Actuary Office or the Chief Actuary, in collaboration with the BAU actuarial teams. Manage the project plan and the expectations from involved parties to ensure a successful implementation of suggested solutions
  • People Management – Provide regular IFRS17 training to junior staffs. Supervise junior members to achieve performance objectives, through providing continuous actuarial knowledge development and regular career coaching; Support the resource planning for the Director of Chief Actuary Office; and support staff engagement initiatives

Job Requirements:

  • University Graduate
  • Fellow of the Societies of Actuaries or equivalent
  • At least 9 years of relevant experience with minimal of 3 year at supervisory level
  • Solid experience in life insurance industry, preferably with UK with-profits management, economic capital (e.g. Solvency II) and financial reporting experience.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge to the IFRS 17 standard; Exposure to IFRS 17 project or analysis is essential.
  • Modeling experience with PROPHET and stochastic modeling software (e.g. PROPHET ALS) is essential
  • Actuarial consultancy background or experience in project management is a plus
  • Presentation experience to senior management with ability to transform complex technical actuarial issues into simple business concepts
  • Experience in project management, people management and coaching
  • A team player with good interpersonal skills, able to work independently and under pressure
  • Good command of both spoken and written English and Chinese
