Senior Manager, IFRS 17 - Actuarial

Job Summary

  • The candidate will drive the formulation of the Group accounting policy and associated actuarial application guidelines that comply with IFRS 17. He/ She will also support a few local business units to drive the implementation of IFRS 17 from technical aspect. The candidate will act as the single contact point for the responsible business units from actuarial side and will work closely with different work streams within the project Halley team and external advisors in Group office.

Key Responsibilities

He/she is expected to:

  • Formulate the valuation bases and measurement techniques for different types of contracts
  • Assess the business and financial impacts of adopting IFRS 17 and explain key results
  • Draft relevant sections for the actuarial valuation manual and methodology specification
  • Provide input to the accounting policy and application guidelines
  • Conduct technical training, workshops and discussion forums to local project Halley team
  • Support to formulate Group-wide accounting and actuarial application basis by working with local project Halley team to assess various accounting and actuarial options
  • Provide technical advice on implementation issues to local project Halley team. This includes but not limited to the followings:
    • Accounting policy application
    • Actuarial valuation basis and measurement techniques
    • Transition strategy and approach
    • Financial statement and disclosure implication
  • Coordinate with external advisors to train and support local project Halley team to perform financial impact assessment
  • Conduct high level review of the implementation results from local project Halley team. This includes but not limited to:
    • Financial impact assessment
    • Product classifications
    • Various key accounting and actuarial option decisions
  • Assist in other Project Halley assignments where necessary such as TRG etc.


  • GCB 06 or above is preferred
  • Experienced in IFRS 17 is a plus
  • Knowledge of market based balance sheet is a plus
  • Fast learner and be able to quickly get up-to-speed with the requirements in IFRS 17
  • Self-motivated and be passionate about participating in Group-wide changes
  • Strong analytical skills and be able to clearly present results systematically and logically
  • Team player with good communication skills
  • Embrace ownership in various tasks and be able to provide thoughtful recommendations
