The Teppanyaki Sous Chef, for Black Sheep Restaurants is responsible for not only cooking and creating dishes, but also putting on a theatrical show for our guests. This person will work directly under the Head Chefs, Front-of-House Manager and owners. He/she should have prior experience at a Teppanyaki Chef role, and expert knowledge of the highly-specialised skill of Japanese Teppan cooking and Sushi making. This is an unusual role for a chef as it combines and requires both specialised cooking skills and techniques, as well as the art of entertaining, engaging and interacting with guests to provide a unique dining experience.

Specific responsibilities include managing authenticity of restaurant, staff training and management of junior cooks, maintaining high quality and consistency for all food, menu and recipe development, entertaining guests.


  • 8+ years of professional kitchen experience with at least 5 years of experience in a Teppanyaki role
  • Dedicated career and overall knowledge of Japanese cuisine
  • Experience managing a team within a kitchen environment
  • Experience working in top hospitality lead cities such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, New York, Hong Kong etc.
  • Responsible experienced in maintaining Teppan cooking area
  • Experience including both Teppanyaki and Sushi
  • Enthusiastic and outgoing personality, to entertain and take care of guests – as this is a kitchen role with the front of house/restaurant area
  • Experience in menu development, creating specials and ordering/purchasing
  • Experience working in world-renowned restaurants from around the world
  • Superior English written and oral communications skills
