Underwriting Manager / Assistant Manager, Financial Lines (General Insurance)

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and other distributors in support of customer and/or business retention and acquisition, e.g. by handling a range of queries, providing advice to assist with the development of an account
  • Work with customers and distributors to determine their insurance related needs and provide solutions
  • Assist in formulating and executing underwriting plans for D&O, Crime and Financial Institution risks, as well as sales and service strategy for these product lines
  • Underwrite and analyze new and renewal business of GC/MM utilizing The Zurich Way of Underwriting (TZW) framework within delegated authority levels
  • Responsible for Business Development and market facing activities with key distribution partners, including International and local brokers and agency channels
  • Measure exposure and analyze risk
  • Determine technical price according to agreed pricing process
  • Quote and set coverage
  • Negotiate terms & conditions
  • Implement agreed technical standards, controls, practices and procedures, thereby maintaining underwriting discipline
  • Timely update and use of RCT to proactively manage and improve the pipeline
  • Contribute ideas and work for the development of new or enhanced propositions based on technical, customer and distributor insights


Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or typically hold or working towards relevant professional qualification such as ACII
  • Minimum 3-5 years of underwriting experience in domestic or international underwriting with strong preference for Financial Lines products, including Financial Institutions, D&O, Crime lines
  • Practical market-facing underwriting experience
  • Fluency in English, Cantonese and Mandarin speaking added advantage
  • Knowledge in Financial Lines products, including Financial Institutions, D&Oand Crime lines underwriting
  • Skills in structuring multinational insurance business in a compliant manner added advantage
  • Knowledge of major legal & regulatory issues in Financial Lines in HK and to some extent in overseas markets added advantage
  • Experience in servicing multinational/ complex accounts with large/ key brokers
  • Pipeline management and new business development
  • Candidate with less experience will be considered as Assistant Manager
