The Role

As the individual who takes on this role, you will assist us in managing the compliance risk associated with operating the Currencies & Emerging Markets (CEM) business in Asia, working closely with Compliance Officers across the region whilst coordinating globally. The CEM business in Asia is primarily located in Singapore and Hong Kong with significant presence in China, Korea, India, Taiwan, Indonesia and Malaysia. The coverage will include all CEM business across the region and have a specific focus in China.

In conjunction with Compliance Officers across the region and other functional partners (including Legal, Internal Audit, Risk, Controls), you will be responsible for driving the management of compliance and regulatory risks, as well as ensuring the maintenance of relationships with senior business management. Simultaneously, you will ensure consistent adherence with all elements of our global compliance program, including transactions and program advice relating to new and existing products, key policies, marketing methods, booking structures and the impact of regulatory change. In addition you will work with business management to build and maintain control mechanisms in compliance with local laws and regulations.

Specifically, your role is to provide compliance advice and guidance to the CEM business related to its China business to ensure all the related country and global compliance requirement are adhered to, in particular on the areas of various market making qualification, cross border RMB business, etc.

The successful candidate must be able to think on their feet, often providing ‘live’ regulatory interpretations and decisions to the business in high profile and/or time constrained situations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Primary Compliance coverage responsibility for the Asia Currencies & Emerging Markets business with its China business;
  • Ongoing assessment of regulatory and compliance risks inherent in existing and proposed business activities and initiating, coordinating and delivering process enhancements where required.
  • Liaise with Global Compliance counterparts in order to communicate APAC issues as well as stay abreast of global initiatives;
  • Review new products and initiatives from Compliance perspective; and
  • Assist in the design, development, implementation and ongoing operation of the Compliance program
  • Preparation and delivery of Compliance training materials in Hong Kong and across Asia.
  • Drafting and managing the roll out of Compliance policies, procedures and guidelines and any associated training requirements.
  • Coordination and liaison with country and corporate compliance groups as well as other corporate control functions such as business management, controls, audit, tax and finance as required.
Required Skills and Experience:
  • Minimum 7 years of experience within a financial institution in the Asia Pacific Region with coverage in relevant fixed income products
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to establish credibility and strong partnership with senior business leaders
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills, as well as the ability to manage several simultaneous projects
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively in English and Mandarin at all levels, both orally and in writing
  • Knowledge of China banking regulations, including CBRC, PBOC and SAFE laws and regulations would be an added advantage.
