Wealth Management, Securities Based Lending Team, Associate

Securities Based Lending Team (SBL) is Wealth Management's center of excellence for underwriting loans that are fully secured by marketable securities. SBL is part of the Credit Risk Management team for JPMorgan Private Bank (PB). The team works closely with Bankers, Investors, Credit Executives and Lending Advisors to deliver excellent client service for all securities based lending requests for clients of the Private Bank's Ultra High Net Worth market teams.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Interact with internal partners (Bankers, Investors, Lending Advisors, Credit Executives and Credit Middle Office) to deliver the best fully secured credit product solution with a sound credit structure.
  • Underwrite all facilities secured by client's investment portfolios, including new requests and annual reviews whilst ensuring these reviews are completed in a timely fashion and in compliance to prevailing credit, firmwide policies as well as regulatory and jurisdictional requirements
  • Maintain a consistently high level of awareness around any potential credit issues. Proactively resolve exceptions, including but not limited to margin call situations, past review facilities, past due principal / interest and documentation exceptions
  • Analyze collateral pool and grade appropriately per credit policy, including ability to compare each transaction to credit policy in order to flag any credit exceptions or non-standard terms for review
  • Prepare client credit documentation including but not limited to Credit Facility Agreements, Pledge Security Agreements, authority forms, registration documents etc
  • Assist in project work such as portfolio reviews, SBL training sessions, Business / Credit systems enhancements / UAT and exposure reporting
  • Take into account the risk / reward proposition when negotiating loan rates with Bankers and must employ a discipline around loan pricing and structure
  • Other ad-hoc duties

  • Degree in finance or related field
  • 4-6 years of Private Banking credit risk or lending experience
  • Knowledge and/or experience of underwriting, lending value analysis, KYC and cross border issues
  • Good understanding of PB credit products, financial markets and securities industry
  • Sound business judgment and risk sensitivity
  • High level analytical skills - able to use qualitative and quantitative tools to analyze complex financial situations
  • Strong communication (written/verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • High level of attention to details in order to ensure all work adheres to credit policy
  • Teamwork ethic and focus; ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Good organizational skills and ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Track record in working with teams from various markets/countries
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency in Tableau, Alteryx, Python would be a strong plus
  • Fluency in English.
  • Knowledge and experience of systems such as Bloomberg is advantageous
