Salary: Model Scale I Pay Scale Point 3 ($14,620 per month) to Model Scale I Pay Scale Point 13 ($17,870 per month)

Entry Requirements: Candidates should (a) have completed Primary 6 education, or equivalent; (b) have three years of experience in patrol / messengerial / cleansing / horticultural / labouring / surveying duties; and (c) be able to communicate in Chinese and simple English, to read simple Chinese and simple English, and to write simple Chinese or simple English.

Note: 1. Candidates will be required to pass a trade test.
2. All qualifications and working experience required should be obtained on or before the closing date for application.
3. For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their BL knowledge. The BL test result will be taken into account only if two candidates are considered equal in all other aspects.

Duties: mainly deployed on -
(a) performing general office duties: assisting in (i) receipt and dispatch of documents, mailing of letters, handling fax messages, photocopying, sorting and binding documents; and (ii) manning the reception counters, including acknowledging receipt of documents delivered in person, receiving visitors and answering simple enquiries;
(b) eviction of unauthorized persons / removal of articles: assisting in (i) seizure of paraphernalia and goods causing obstruction; (ii) demolition of illegal extension erected by unauthorized operators; (iii) removal of bulky abandoned articles in common areas of estates; and (iv) eviction of tenants, unauthorized occupants / trespassers and vacated premises;
(c) participating in law-enforcement duties: assisting in (i) enforcement of traffic by-laws, including impounding of vehicles causing obstruction on estate restricted areas; (ii) anti-hawking activities such as preventing the intrusion of illegal hawkers and participating in anti-hawking operations; and (iii) anti-littering activities;
(d) performing horticultural and related duties: assisting in (i) nursery works; and (ii) horticultural works including gardening, tree trimming, grass mowing and planting; and
(e) performing land surveying duties: assisting in (i) safe-keeping, repair, maintenance and preparation of survey equipments for field operations; (ii) survey work including communication through hand signals and radio transceivers in field operations; and (iii) emergency survey work outside normal working hours.

A Workman I may be required to (i) work in remote areas and irregular hours; and (ii) perform shift, emergency, outdoor and / or overtime duties as necessary.

Terms of Appointment: A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.
