Hong Kong's dollar falls to more than 4-year low

HONG KONG, Jan 18 (Reuters) - The Hong Kong dollar fell to more than four year lows on Monday as volatility, weak markets and capital outflows hurt investor sentiment.

In opening trades on Monday, the local currency hit 7.80 per dollar, its weakest since September 2011 and the midpoint of a 7.75-7.85 trading band.

The Hong Kong dollar has increasingly become a proxy for bets on the yuan for hedge funds and other speculators as economic links with the mainland have deepened.
