3. Illustrate
your suitability for the job using achievements
Remember that you
need to make it easy for the recruiter to see how you
can fulfil the requirements of the job and make a difference
to their business. The most effective way of doing this
is to include relevant achievements in your resume.
Achievements should highlight how you made a difference
and added value in certain situations. When considering
your achievements, think about times when you have:
- Reduced costs
- Improved a system
- Made a process more efficient
- Contributed to a team effort
- Generated revenue
- Solved a problem
- Came up with an idea that was subsequently implemented
- Helped someone do their own job more effectively
How do I identify my achievements?
If you find it difficult to identify your achievements,
here is a technique that might help:
Think of the problems and challenges you have faced
either at work or in study.
Identify:
- What was the problem/challenge?
- What did I do to face the challenge/overcome the
problem?
- What was the result? How did my actions impact on
my success, the business or other people? What was
the benefit of my actions?
Rewrite the achievement in short form - focus on your
action and the benefit
Remember to include achievements that are relevant
to the job description.
